Getting Back Into the Swing of Things?

Hey, what's this dusty old thing?  Oh yeah...I have a blog....

....oops.

Hello friends, real and imaginary!  I hope that life has been kind to you!  It has been for me :)  It's also been hectic and unscheduled.  And how can one be expected to keep up a regular blog schedule when one's life has no structure?  One can't, I tell ya!  But now that the school year has begun and my life has structure again, I'm ready to get back to blogging!

But before we begin, let me catch you up on my life :)

  • I have been cast as Cecily Cardew in The Importance of Being Ernest at Baton Rouge Little Theater.  It opens on Friday, September 28, and, y'all, this show is going to be awesome!  I've been having a blast with the rehearsals.  Call 225-924-6496 or visit Baton Rouge Little Theater's Website for tickets.
  • I have begun my senior year at LSU in the Communication Disorders program.  I have  good feeling about this semester!  I genuinely like and am interested in my classes.  My teachers are fantastic!  There's only one catch...
  • Grad School.  I have to apply for it this semester.  I am so freaking terrified.  I have a meeting with my advisor on Monday that will hopefully quell some of my fears.  I've talked to some of my classmates and they seem just as terrified and bewildered as I am, so at least I'm not alone.  Right now, my plan is just to apply to as many schools as possible and pray that at least one of them wants me.
  • I am officially a football fan!  Well, at least an LSU football fan :)  Boyfriend was appalled that I had never been to a single football game as a student (and only 1 game otherwise) and convinced me to buy season tickets this year.  Y'all...football is fun!  I love every part of it—from the tailgaiting to the tiger band to the clothes to the food to the game itself!  It's all awesome.  I feel kind of silly for not going to more games before now.
  • Speaking of boyfriend, tomorrow marks 6 months with him.  Just a cute little tidbit :)
And now...to the fun!

Fill in the blanks on your own blog and link up here!

1) Right now, the weather where I live is improving.  During the football game last week, I began to feel breezes blow through Tiger Stadium.  When I walked outside on Sunday morning, the weather was so wonderful I wanted to skip!  It felt like fall!  Fall is my absolute favorite season!  While the weather since then hasn't been as perfect, it has been pretty awesome!  Hotter on some days than others, but the delightful breeze has remained.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's nice for the game tomorrow.

2) The best piece of advice I've ever been given is "Things fall apart so that they can come back together."  A Rockefeller Center security guard after she mistook my crying with my head on the table for me being a homeless person in the days following my break-up last October.
She was right.  She was so right.

3) My most favorite person in all the world is boyfriend.  I even tell him "You're my favorite," on a regular basis. (I didn't include my blood family in my pool of possible answers.  It's understood they they're held on a pretty high pedestal in my life.)

4) If I were to have a mission statement for my life, it would be Live. Love.  Laugh. Repeat.
I just came up with that.  I've never actually thought about a mission statement for my life before...haha.

5) My favorite thing in my closet is....don't make me choose!  I love everything!  The shoes! The dresses! The cardigans! I can't pick a favorite!

6) The best cure for a bad day is a hot shower, a cozy bed, swedish fish, and a really fattening meal.

7) Today is ....
I couldn't resist.

No More Blog?

Not really!  Well, not yet, at least! But under the SOPA and Protect IP Act, the government and corporations could shut down any site on which its users post content that infringes on copyrights, meaning, if I understand this correctly, Blogger (my blog host) could easily be shut down.  Which would make me very sad.  And I would have no where to write about this sad.  And that would make me more sad and it's a vicious cycle.

Therefore...

I've censored the following, in protest of a bill that gives any corporation and the US government the power to censor the internet--a bill that could pass THIS WEEK. To see the uncensored text, and to stop internet censorship, visit: http://americancensorship.org/posts/21080/uncensor

When Finals are Over...

When Finals are Over...

...I can watch lots of Gilmore Girls.

...I can sleep in.

...I can try to crochet again.

...This feeling of imminent doom will go away.

...I can start watching Modern Family.

...I can focus on auditions for Almost Maine.

...I can do Christmas shopping.

...I can work out.  Or at least think about working out.

...I can spend time on Pinterest without thinking about all of the schoolwork I have to do.

...I can get a manicure.

...I can get my hair cut.

...I can blog on a daily/regular basis again.

...I can catch up on the 30 Day Photo Challenge.

...I can do my laundry.

...I can read all of the books I've waiting all semester to read.

...I can play Zelda: Twilight Princess.

...I can relax again.

...I can drink caffeine again.

...I can stop studying.

Finals have consumed my life, mind and focus, so blogging is going to be a little sparse this week.  But to tide you over until Friday, I leave you with this:

I can be silly when I'm avoiding schoolwork.
So silly...

When finals are over, I will give this blog and my readers the attention they deserve.  I'll be back Friday (at the latest)!  To my student readers: Good luck with finals!  To my non-student readers: Have a fantastic week!

Later, taters!

5-in-1

I have quite a bit of catch-up to do on the 30 Day Photo Challenge.  Silly holidays got in the way of my picture taking.  I promise it won't happen again :)  And no, of course I don't have my fingers crossed behind my back...

So, let's get started.

Day 16: What I Ate

I completely forgot to take pictures of my food on Day 16.  So instead, I'll show you what I made for breakfast on Thanksgiving morning!

Pumpkin pancakes—another Pinterest recipe!  I would give you the recipe, but I want to try to make them one more time before I do.  They tasted great, but the texture was kind of off.  They were kind of heavy and didn't rise at all.  I'm not sure if that's due to a problem with the recipe or to the fact that our baking powder wasn't as fresh as it could have been.  Once I've tried it with newer baking powder, I'll let you know if the recipe is one worth sharing :)

Day 17: On the Shelf!

I love my bookshelf!  It's so nice and neat and organized!
Top Shelf:  Most of the books that I keep at my apartment.  I have waay more at home.  There's also a picture of my parents at the beach and a piece of driftwood that I found on a walk with my mom my last morning at the beach this year.  On top of the bookshelf is a picture of the 2008 cast and crew of Dracula at Baton Rouge Little Theater and a picture of all of the winners from the 2010 BRLT Beaux Arts Ball—the year I won Best Supporting Actress in a Play!
The next two shelves:  My DVDs (This is the majority of my DVD collection) and a picture of my grandparents.  The lower shelf holds my the entire series of Gilmore Girls and Lost on DVD.  The picture is of my friend Ronald and I.  The picture is from the Baton Rouge Little Theater's 2010 production of Private Lives in which Ronald played my husband.
And the bottom two shelves:  The top shelf holds my books that are too tall to stand up (including the Lost Encyclopedia, The Paddington Treasury, The Annotated Alice in Wonderland, Apartment Therapy, and a book about lefties that my mom got me at a garage sale), Scrabble Slam and Phase 10 card games, a brick from the beach house that my family went to every year until Hurricane Ivan destroyed it and my photo album.  The bottom shelf holds extra notebooks, all of my music and my textbooks.

Congratulations! You are now an expert in my bookshelf!  I'm always really interested in things like what other people keep on their bookshelves and in their kitchens and on their walls.  I think it's a really neat glimpse into someone's life that can tell you a lot about them.

Day 18: In My Bag

This is another thing that really fascinates me—what other women keep in their purses.  Sometimes it inspires me to keep my purse neater; sometimes it makes me feel slightly less psycho when I see that other women's purses are just as black hole-ish as mine seems to be.

At this very moments, the contents of my purse include:
A headband, assorted medicines, contacts lens drops, glucose tablets, lip balm, lip gloss, lip stick, a CVS receipt, a pen, my eyeglasses, two packets of tissues, my iPhone, my iPod, earbuds, a compact mirror, my sunglasses, iPhone charger, wallet, various coupons, a tin of Altoids and a pack of gum.

Normally my keys would be in there too.  I know it seems like a ton of stuff, but it's all essential, I promise!  And my purse is deceptively huge.  It may seem like a lot of stuff, but once you put it in my purse there's still a ton of room left.

Day 19: Where I Slept

Okay, this isn't actually where I slept on Day 19.  I actually slept at my parent's house.  But my bed at my parent's house is messy and has mismatched sheets and blankets.  My apartment bed, on the other hand, is nice and neat with color coordinated comforter, quilt and pillows.  You would have chosen to post the apartment bed too :)

This also gives me the chance to show off one of my favorite things in my room: my framed poster of Georges Seurat's A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grand Jatte.  Have you seen Stephen Sondheim's Sunday in the Park with George?  You really should, especially if you're an artist, performer, musician, etc.  If you've seen that musical, you'll understand why I love that painting so much.

And finally, today's picture!  Day 20: What I Read

I don't have time to read any sort of "for myself" book.  All I have time for is textbooks.  I know, sad.  But I do have a list of books I'm planning to read once school is out including The King's Speech and Jaycee Dugard's memoir.  But until then, all of my "for fun" reading is in blog form.  So today, I'll share a few of my favorite blogs with you!

First off is my friend Mel who writes Little Mrs. Married!  Mel is always so sweet and optimistic and funny and her blog is so cute!  I also get some cute blog ideas from her, like those fill-in-the-blanks!

Next is Marriage Confessions!  I have not personally met Katie, who writes it, but I bet if we were to meet, we would get along swimmingly!  She writes about her marriage, her children, her difficulties with baking, her family, everything!  And she's a fellow redhead!  She's really honest about her life and seems to have very similar viewpoints to mine when it comes to things like parenting (I know, I'm no where near that point yet!  But I want to be ready and it's never to early to have opinions about that kind of thing in my opinion!).  I've been reading blogs and articles about parenting lately because I'll be working a lot with parents in my future work as an Early Intervention SLP and I think it's important to try to understand as best I can all of these aspects of parenting and the decisions that parents have to make and what goes into those thought processes, especially because the children I'll be working with are so young (Birth to 3). I feel like I get a lot of insight into that on Katie's blog.

Next is Bakerella!  Like I've mentioned before, I discovered how much I love the kitchen once I moved into my apartment and I'm working of "re-discovering" that love.  Bakerella is adorable and is the master of Cake Pops (which I will be making in the next couple of weeks!).  And she has so many cute recipes that I'm dying to try!

And finally, PostSecret! If you've been living under a rock and have never heard of PostSecret, the basic concept is that people from all over the world write their secret on a post card and anonymously mail it to Frank Warren, the man behind Post Secret.  Every Sunday, he posts a handful of secrets on the PostSecret website.  PostSecret is more therapeutic than anything else.  We all have our secrets, things we only tell those we are most close to (or maybe not even them).  They may be tiny and seem insignificant, or they may be huge and painful to carry around.  I've never sent a physical postcard to Frank, but I have posted on the PostSecret app and it's very releasing to just put your secret out there for everyone to see.  And I've on more than one occasion come across my own secret on PostSecret.com written in someone else's handwriting.  If you haven't been to PostSecret, you really should check it out!

Well, there you have it!  Now that Thanksgiving has passed, I should do a lot better about keeping up with this photo challenge!  That is, until Christmas madness kicks in...
My dad and I put up the Christmas tree in my apartment today.  Holiday Spirit has been hard to come by for me this year, but I must admit that I felt a twinge of some sort of spirit as we decorated the tree.

And this is just a picture of my cats because they were getting along for once and eating peacefully next to each other.  A rare occurrence for these kitties.

That's all (for tonight), folks!  Enjoy the last few hours of your Thanksgiving holiday (if you got one) and have a great Monday (if there is such a thing...)!

30 Day Photo Challenge

Yesterday, I discovered Pinterest.   And all I can say is, "What rock have I been hiding under? How come nobody told me about this?"  The only reason I found it yesterday is because Katie at Marriage Confessions posted a blog about it.  And I am absolutely in love.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with the awesomeness, Pinterest is basically an online bulletin board that members can "pin" fun things they find on the internet on.  I requested an invite to join yesterday and am waiting on pins and needles for my invite.  But you don't have to be invited to look at all of the things people post.  There's recipes, craft ideas, fashion ideas, blog ideas, etc. that lead you to other fun sites that you might be interested in.  So far, Pinterest has led me to Food Gawker and How Sweet It Is.  Although my appetite his has not returned since my break-up, I've been really obsessed with cooking and baking (neither of which I've actually done yet, but I've thought about it), so I've had a lot of fun looking at pictures and collecting recipes that I want to try to make for others (and when my appetite actually returns, for me) on these sites.

One fun idea I found on Pinterest was this:
I know it says August, but I/m gonna do it now! It doesn't really require much explanation.  Every day for 30 days, you post a picture.  I think it's a cute idea for a blog because it gives you something to post even when you don't have something to write about.  So keep an eye out for these at the bottom of my blog posts or as posts themselves (for those days when my head is completely empty)!

So, without further ado, Day 1: Self Portrait

This is what I look like right at this moment.  Messy hair in a ponytail held back with a cheap headband.  Leftover make-up. Glasses.  Sweatshirt.  You can't see the pajama pants (which is probably for the best).  It's a rainy day.  The kind that makes you want to lie in bed in sweatshirts and pajama pants and ponytails and headbands and blog and watch 19 Kids and Counting (Have you heard?  19 is about to become 20!) and blog and browse Pinterest.

So that's exactly what I'm doing.  And what I'm going to keep doing.  Perfection.

Absence

So...I uh....kind of haven't given this blog any thought in about 6 months.

I've been happy. I've been in love. A comfortable love. I've been distracted (in a good way) and this just kind of fell to the wayside.

Well, all of that has changed. Last week my heart was broken. I'm still hopelessly in love. In fact, I think I'm even more in love now than I was 10 days ago. But now that love isn't returned. Sad, sad situation. I'm in the middle of writing a long blog post about all of that, but I'm debating on whether or not I should post it. On one hand, I think I would be very therapeutic for me to write everything out and put it out there. But on the other hand, this isn't all about me. Despite my heartbreak and pain, I have to remember that I wasn't the entire relationship. I was only 50% and in writing about my relationship, I'm also writing about someone else's relationship. It would be very easy to start pointing fingers and naming names, so I have to be very careful.

So, let's just leave it at that for now. I'm back! The circumstances absolutely suck beyond reasonable suckitude, but it is what it is. I'm excited about getting back on the blogging bandwagon :)

On a different note, oh my goodness! There have been quite a bit of you stopping by in my absence! My highest visit count ever was this past September: 635 of you wandered by! I don't know what you were looking for, but I'm glad you stopped by! There should be something to read here sometime in the immediate future :) Perhaps even something totally awesome!

And on that note, I leave you with a video that makes me giggle uncontrollably, no matter how sad I may be:

LOVE ME!

I'm stealing a bit from Katie, who writes my favorite blog Marriage Confessions. Near the beginning of her blog, she noticed that her blog hits were spiking. She was so excited until her husband pointed out that all of her traffic sources were from google searches for a picture of Godzilla. Apparently people were searching "Godzilla Marriage" or "Godzilla Wife" or the like and they were all being routed to her page.

Well, the same thing seems to be happening to me. My hits aren't necessarily spiking (at least not as much as Katie's were), but I'm noticing that I am getting a lot of traffic from people Googling something (I have absolutely no idea what they could be searching to get this) and clicking on this picture:

I know! Weird!

When Katie noticed that Godzilla was giving her more traffic, she tried posting pictures of other popular things in her blog to bring in more traffic. And now I will shamelessly copy her!

Come all ye mindless masses! Read my blog! I don't have much to say, but I sure look cute when I say it!
